Being "Real" Online
When using the internet it's always important to maintain an honest identity because, if you don't you are being a catfish. A catfish is someone who's pretending to be someone they are not online. In this situation the person who got catfish can get serious emotionally hurt and they might lose the ability to trust people online for example, if you were talking to someone online and they sent you a few pictures of themselves but, then they tell that those pictures were fake wouldn't you be deeply hurt? In our digital lit class we watched a video that helped me understand more about people cat fishing. The show is called Catfish! A bit of information about this show Nev and Max help people figure out if the person they are speaking to are really them or a catfish. In this episode we meet a women named Jennifer who formed a friendship with a guy named Skylar over the internet. Some information about these two is, because of the bullying she experienced she feels like people online accepted her better. Jennifer and Skylar meet in a video game and Jennifer believes she knows the following information about Skylar; His full name, age, where he goes to school and what he looked like. After Nev and Max did some major investigations, they discovered that Skylar Hazen was a person but, he was not the person Jennifer was talking, and they also called the college he was suppose to be attending but, there wasn't anyone that went by that name. Basically everything she knew about the person she was talking to was a lie and this made Jennifer feel really upset. They finally find the man who she was talking to and his real name was Bryan. Bryan apologize many times to Jennifer and seemed to regret what he did but, I'm not sure if that was sincere or not. This episode shows that not everyone you meet online is the person they say they are and you should be careful who you talk to and who you trust because, you never know who's on the other side of that screen.
